Hi, thanks for visiting my new page which will explain how to apply to have your wedding, corporate and personal images edited.
Introduction
If you’ve already taken a look around my website it might have become clear that I have practised in wedding photography for many years (and have lots of great reviews from my wonderful customers). Over the years I have received many enquiries from couples who would like to have their wedding images edited, which had been taken by another photographer. Due to certain obstacles this is not a service that I had been able to offer to the public on a regular basis, although as I receive repeated requests over time I have recognised that this might be a service worth offering, if such obstacles can be overcome. Reasons for photo editing request might be that the original photographer did not offer the service, the photos were taken by a friend, or the couple decided later that they would like something changing and the photographer was already booked or unavailable (it is not necessarily because the photographs or the photographer is not good).
Copyright and other obstacles
One one of the first things that I have had to think about are Copyright, as photographers are at liberty to request within their contract that no one should edit their photographs without permission from themselves. This is particularly important where customers might share images publicly. For this reason where filling out the application clients must state that they have received the permission of their original photographer. There are also practical elements to consider where sending and receiving images are concerned, as sending images back and forth to make requests and to make checks isn’t necessarily practical, and could be time consuming (and render a project unprofitable). For this reason I am offering clients the opportunity to review and buy their images once they have been edited from a third party website, which provides a watermark, and purchasing functions to streamline the service. If a client has a large number of images to be edited, it might be that we would work in small batches/incrementally so that images can be approved along the way.
Editing on request and timelines
It has also been necessary for me to consider the timeline between a received enquiry and the expectation of the client where they would like to receive their edited images i.e clients should be ready to have their images edited on enquiry. I cannot offer availability or pricing where the client might want to go ahead in two months time for example.
Editing for other styles of photography
During my time as a photographer I have as well as editing my own work, taken temporary and part time work as a corporate head shot editor. Tasks have included airbrushing’ using special techniques such as ‘high frequency separation’ and special sharpening. During an edit I might take dandruff from a collar line, remove a spot, or even a bit of eye sleep. The effect is a much more professional look over all once the image has been completed.
Supported file types
When sending files it is important that they are sent in a format that I am able to work with. Professional photographers very rarely send out RAW files to clients, and so it would be likely that I would be working with high resolution Jpegs. I may agree to work with low resolution images, although the results may be much less pleasing. You can check the file type of your images on a PC for example by right clicking on your images and clicking on properties. If you do not have Jpeg images I may be able to convert this for you.
Sending images
I currently use Wetransfer third party software to receive images.
Types of imagery
Whilst handling images from from the public it is important to highlight a boundary in terms of the types of imagery that I will accept. The main types of imagery I accept are wedding and corporate (for example LinkedIn head shots). I may consider accepting ‘personal’ images such as family photograph for example. I would not accept adult content of any kind or images featuring nudity.
Instructions for editing
When applying to have your images edited please leave a brief description in the message field whilst making your enquiry. More specific instructions for individual images should be included with the images when sending via Wetransfer, where your request is accepted.
What is my level of skill?
I would describe myself as having intermediate skills in photo editing, and use professional software. There will be some tasks that I cannot perform. I cannot create something digitally which did not exist in the first place.
